Linda N. Wonder is a 73-year-old writer with a background in systems analysis and technology.

She spent much of her professional life looking at systems: how their pieces fit together, where assumptions were hiding, what happened when something failed, and why the result people actually experienced did not always resemble the result someone intended to create.

Retirement changed the subjects.

It did not change the habit.

Her nonfiction follows questions through technology, artificial intelligence, consciousness, human behavior, society, and complex systems.

Her fiction approaches many of those same underlying territories differently—through characters, relationships, identity, memory, and psychological change.

The part of a person or a system that was excluded because the boundary had been drawn too narrowly.

And the possibility that sometimes the most accurate answer available is simply: I don't know yet.

Her approach to writing resembles her approach to inquiry: begin with curiosity, look carefully at what is actually there, distinguish evidence from interpretation, remain willing to revise the model, and resist forcing certainty where certainty has not been earned.

Then, occasionally, allow imagination to wander a little farther.
